Mitch Buchannon (Hasselhoff) is strandwacht. Hij laat zijn wakend oog over het zonnige strand dwalen zodat schitterende, welgevormde jonge Californische vrouwen niet in de problemen raken in de branding van de oceaan. Een droombaan voor iedere jonge kerel, die daardoor zodanig in beslag wordt genomen dat hij geen verdere ambities meer koestert. Maar niet Mitch, want hij wil een detectivebureau beginnen met Ryan McBride (Harmon), een priv[KA1]e-speurneus uit New York, en ex-smeris Garner Ellerbee (Williams). Overdag wil Mitch op het strand blijven, terwijl hij `s nachts de misdaad bestrijdt. In deze eerste aflevering wordt een aantrekkelijk fotomodelletje Cassidy (Alt), lastig gevallen door een enge stalker, die al een collegaatje van Cassidy koud gemaakt zou hebben. Mitch wordt met zijn kameraden ingehuurd om haar te beschermen, maar het trio kan niet voorkomen dat de psychopaat binnindringt bij hun knappe opdrachtgeefster. Cassidy legt de vermeende moordenaar uit zelfverdediging om. Eigenlijk geen best begin voor de eerste episode met Mitch, die heel ambitieus moet overkomen. Lou Rawls zit in vervolgen als de eigenaar van de bluesbar 'Nights' en laat zelfs muziek horen. In deze tv-serie worden Santa Monica en Malibu wat grimmiger afgebeeld dan in Baywatch. De spelprestaties zijn middelmatig hoewel de regie van Trikonis redelijk is. De grootste boosdoener is het ondermaatse scenario van Kimmer Ringwald.
